Thanksgiving in Park View, 1916

Park View celebrated its first Thanksgiving in the auditorium of the newly completed Park View Elementary School on November 30, 1916. Notables in attendance included Dr. Philander P. Claxton, U.S. Commissioner of Education, and Miss Margaret Wilson, daughter of the President.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful bit of Park View Elementary history. I like the U.S Commissoner of Education’s comments around schools should be used as community assets and not just a place for children alone.

I’d also like to see the school used more by the community at large. Its a beautiful building and an asset to the community. Perhaps someday.
