Search for Sites to Close D.C. General Considered (but Rejected) Park View Locations

February 24, 2016

Yesterday, the Washington City Paper posted a map (below) showing the locations that were considered, and some ultimately chosen, for the new short-term family housing sites that will be built across the city so that D.C. General can be closed (read Post article here and Washington City Paper article here).  In Ward 1, the site ultimately chosen is located at 10th and V streets, NW, close to the U Street corridor (read Washington City Paper article here).

In looking at the map two sites in Park View appear to have been considered, but rejected as being too small. One is the church property at 625 Park Road, NW, and the other is is located at 3619 Georgia Avenue, NW. There has been scuttlebutt for a while that the owner of the church property is willing to sell for the right price, so I’m not surprised that it was considered. Personally, if 625 Park Road is available and the city is genuinely interested in it, I think it would make more sense to include it in the Park Morton redevelopment effort as part of a much larger plan.

Key: white = sites that were selected; red = proposed site was not large enough; purple = unsuccessful negotiation; orange = other reason for rejection
