Road Closures on Saturday Due to Marathon

Here’s a reminder that the annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is this Saturday, March 12th, and will impact neighborhood traffic with road closures. The race course includes Harvard Street between 4th Street (east) and Columbia Road (west) so plan weekend travel accordingly.

2015 Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon Is This Saturday — Expect Rolling Road Closures

The Rock ‘N’ Roll DC Marathon and ½ Marathon will take place this Saturday, March 14. The race begins on Constitution Avenue, NW at 14th Street and finishes in Lot 7 of the RFK Stadium Grounds. The race begins at 7:30 a.m., travels north along Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway before traveling east on Columbia Road and Harvard Street, NW. It then travels south on North Capitol Street before heading east again on K Street, NE. The race will create rolling road closures, so make alternate travel plans, take Metro, or refer to the race course map prior to heading out. 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon Is Saturday — Expect Road Closures

Expect significant road closures in DC on Saturday morning due to the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst Half Marathon. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. and the course is posted below.

The race course impacts Ward 1 neighborhoods from mile 6 to 9 on the course, but as it also includes Rock Creek Parkway and North Capitol Street, there will be no easy routes connecting residents north of the race course to points south until the marathon is over. In looking at the race schedule from past years, roads should be open by 1:00 p.m. More information is available on the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon Web site.

Expect Road Closures during Saturday’s Marathon

Expect significant road closures in DC between 7:20am and 12:45pm due to the SunTrust Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Half Marathon on Saturday, March 17.

Specifically for our neighborhood, from mile 4 to 9 on the course, streets close later, at 8 am, and reopen between 11:00-11:45 am.

These closures include:

• 18th Street NW from Constitution Avenue NW to Connecticut Avenue NW
• Connecticut Avenue NW from 18th Street NW to Columbia Road NW
• Columbia Road NW from Connecticut Avenue NW to Harvard Street NW
• Harvard Street NW from Columbia Road NW to 5th Street NW
• 5th and 4th Streets NW from Harvard Street NW to Bryant Street NW
• Bryant Street NW from 4th Street NW to North Capitol Street NW

Expect an impact on local traffic & METRO bus.

2011 Sun Trust National Marathon is Tomorrow

Here’s a heads up for those that may have let this get past their radar, the 2011 Sun Trust National Marathon is tomorrow, Saturday March, 26. As you can see below, the race course cuts through the southern part of the neighborhood on Harvard Street, which is scheduled to be closed between Columbia Road and 5th/4th Street between 7:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. You can see a complete list of rolling street closings by clicking here.

For those needing to get around the city during the marathon, if you rely on Metro Metrorail will open one hour early—at 6 a.m.—on Saturday, March 26, to help participants get to the starting line for the SunTrust National Marathon.

The following District of Columbia Metrobus routes will be impacted: 5A, 13F, 13G, 31, 32, 34, 36, 38B, 42, 52, 54, 64, 70, 80, 90, 92, 96, 98, A42, A46, A48, B2, D4, D6, D8, G2, G8, H2, H4, H8, L2, M6, N6, P6, S2, S4, U6, V8, X2 and X8.
