Christmas Decorations Beginning to Show Up in the Neighborhood

November 21, 2013

I’ve begun to notice houses with Christmas decorations recently. I saw the house below on New Hampshire Avenue over the weekend and noticed another on the 1300 b/o Kenyon Street last night. Generally, I love holiday decorations and look forward to seeing more. However, I’m still a little surprised to be seeing Christmas decorations prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Holiday Lights at 626 Princeton Place

December 22, 2011

While it’s hard to truly capture how a house looks all lit up for the holidays, I think this photo of 626 Princeton does a fair job. I particularly like the lighting in the yard’s bird bath.

Another Park View Home Decorated for the Holidays

As we approach Christmas, I decided to continue sharing neighborhood houses decorated for the holidays. The photos below are of 3648 Park Place. Enjoy.

… And This Years Holiday Lights Winner Is — 4300 4th Street, NW

December 19, 2011

Last Thursday, Dec. 15th, the residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home toured approximately 25 houses in the Park View and Petworth neighborhoods to judge the holiday decorations. This was the first year in what is hoped to be an annual event. Their guides were Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners Zach Hartman (ANC 4C09) and Kent Boese (ANC 1A08).

After tallying the votes, the winner is in … and it is the house at 4300 4th Street, NW, in Petworth (shown below)

While it’s tough to compete with the house above (many of us will have our work cut out for us next year), there were many, many housing in the surrounding area that deserve honorable mention. While its impossible to list them all, I have posted a few of them after the jump. (more…)

Park View Pride Reflected in Holiday Lights

December 9, 2011

I got a HUGE smile when I saw the holiday lights currently on display at 3404 Warder Street, NW. As you can see from the photo below, “Park View” has been incorporated into the design.

… leading me to a reminder that we are currently in the preparation stages of the first annual Park View/Petworth/AFRH holiday lights competition. The date for judging has been set for the evening of Thursday, December 15th.

Community Holiday Lights Constest — Who’s In?

November 25, 2011

Decorations at 608 Rock Creek Church Road from last year

Here’s something fun to kick off the Yuletide season.

The Park View, Petworth, and Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) communities are in the early stages of organizing a holiday lights competition. Everyone involved thus far thinks this is a good opportunity to have the communities get to know each other better. It’s also an opportunity to have some good, old-fashioned competition.

As I mentioned, this event is still in the very early stages of organization with full details yet to be worked out. The general idea is to identify households that want to participate. Then, select a night that the AFRH seniors can view the decorations and vote on the decorations they like best.

As details are nailed down, I’ll post an update here. Of course, you can always send me an email as well.

So, who wants to participate?
