Kids and Adults Enjoy Weekend Easter Events

March 28, 2016

In many parts of Washington this past weekend communities hosted Easter egg hunts and events for families to enjoy. The weather was great as well. Two events that occurred in and near Park View on Saturday, March 26th, included an Easter celebration at Park Morton and egg races and prizes at the 11th & Monroe Trolley Park. Both events were sponsored by the Friends of the Trolley Park, the North Columbia Heights Civic Association, the Salvation Army Sherman Ave Corps, and other local groups. The Salvation Army provided food including hot dogs.

There was a good turn out at the Trolley Park, which was scheduled from noon to 2 pm. You can get a good feel for the gathering from the photo below.

The following video also captures one of the egg races (and there were many).

The Park Morton celebration was later in the afternoon from 3 pm to 6 pm. In addition to food and an egg hunt, there was music, a moon bounce, ice cream and Italian ice (I tried the blueberry), and face painting. The photos below show the moon bounce and face painting earlier in the day. The Park Morton event was hosted by the Park Morton Resident Council.

Children participating in Easter activities at the White House, April 2, 1923

Angela Strange and her Park View Kids Zone program has scheduled an Easter Egg Hunt for Saturday April 23, 2011. The entire community is invited to participate. They will have Easter crafts and activities all day from Noon to 4 p.m.

The Easter Egg Hunt will take place at 2 p.m. on the field at the Park View Recreation Center (693 Otis Place). For those that can not attend but want to contribute, Mrs. Strange indicated that they are in need of plastic Easter eggs and candy donations. If anyone is interested in donating either of these items please contact Mrs. Angela at 615-496-0834. They can arrange pick up or folks can drop donations off at the Rec Center’s field house from 3-6 p.m., Monday through Friday, or Saturday’s from Noon-4 p.m.

While area Easter events are generally associated with the White House (above photo), this hasn’t always been necessarily so. Though the picture quality is low, the image below documents an egg-rolling event near the ponds of the Soldiers’ Home that occurred on April 5, 1926.
