Do You Like Dogs and Beer? Then Try the Blue Banana’s Thursday Yappy Hour

June 6, 2012

If you missed last Friday’s Washington Post, you probably also missed its mention of  the Blue Banana’s Thursday Yappy Hours. Their Dog-Friendly Happy Hour started as a once a month charity night. It turned out to be so popular that  the Blue Banana has made it a weekly Thursday event. One Thursday a month will continue to benefit the Washington Animal Rescue League.

The details from the Washington Post are below:

The back patio at Blue Banana “has been dog-friendly since the day we opened,” says bar owner Jamie Hess. Oscar, his almost 3-year-old Portuguese water dog, may have had something to do with the decision. While pups have always been welcome, the bar decided to make it official in May by hosting a Yappy Hour every Thursday night. Dogs socialize while snacking on Milk-Bones and lapping from bowls of water; meanwhile, humans can get any drink in the house — beer, wine or mixed drinks — for $4.

Once per month, the bar donates 20 percent of the proceeds to the Washington Animal Rescue League. Upcoming charity nights include June 14, July 12 and Aug. 16.

Porc Mobile Providing Food at Blue Banana During Football Season

November 14, 2011

OK, so you want to watch Sunday football and you want to enjoy good food. Until recently your options in Park View were slim — bordering on none. Now, Blue Banana is attempting to correct that.

For the duration to the football season Porc Mobile (Purveyors of Rolling Cuisine) will be a regular Sunday feature at the Blue Banana. According to their Web site, they are currently featuring BBQ, gourmet sausages, and seasonal vegetarian specialties.

I’ll provide additional details as I learn them … but I think this is an excellent solution to providing a food choices in businesses that otherwise may not have the space for a full kitchen.

Blue Banana Getting Outdoor Beer Garden and Happy Hour Reminder

March 18, 2011

Beer Garden at Blue Banana

Last time I checked out Blue Banana the manager showed me the progress that had been made with their outdoor space in the rear of the building. So far, I think it looks pretty good. As I understand it, they’re still waiting on some paperwork and a serving space before it can go live … but with the warmer weather hitting us I don’t think it can be any too soon.

And, as we’re talking about Blue Banana, don’t forget that I’ll be there for a Park View book Happy Hour from 6-8 p.m. tonight. I understand that drink specials are $3 Rail Drinks and all beers are $5 or less.

If that doesn’t suit you, they are also having a Captain Morgan Promotional Event from 8:30–10 p.m. and after that there will be a DJ.

Area Development Tid Bits

December 14, 2010

It’s been a while since area residents have heard the words Central Union Mission … but at the end of last night’s Georgia Avenue Community Development Task Force out-going ANC 1A05 Commissioner William Jordan mentioned them in connection with the property at Newton Place and Georgia Avenue.

According to Jordan, the tax relief that Central Union Mission was seeking for their property at 3512 Georgia Avenue was turned down. How this will impact the development of the first phase of Park Morton, if at all, has yet to be determined.

For those seeking more information on the Blue Banana — which could very well be open before I have an opportunity to post about it again — the beer line-up has been settled.

According to Ted Trabue the initial beer line up looks like this: Sam Adams seasonal, Hennepin, Abita, Sierra Nevada, Chimay, Brooklyn Lager, Allagash, Dogfish head, Victory Golden Monkey, Peroni, Coors Light, and Blue Moon. I’m sure the selection will change over time, especially with the seasonal selections.
