October First Friday Offers Much to Do — Check It Out!
It is once again First Friday time! Join your neighbors on Georgia Avenue from 6-9 on Friday evening and celebrate the small businesses of our neighborhood, enjoy their specials and special events. For a list of all participating businesses and a map check: http://bit.ly/2xH7JLN
A few of the high-lights are:
- Live music galore: Listen to live piano music at Mom N’Pop Antiques (3534 Georgia Ave NW) as you peruse their eclectic furniture, art and home decor; dance and listen to live rock by Judge Smith at the Old Murray’s Parking Lot (corner of Morton & Georgia Ave NW); and head down to the Colony Club (3118 Georgia Ave NW) for some jazz and funk by Three Man Soul Machine.
- Love the Story District’s “gold standard” (Washington Post) shows in storytelling and have been wondering if you should give it a try? Friday is your day! Story District is offering a free flash course to let you get a taste. Register for free ahead of time as space is limited: http://bit.ly/2fNZTqe
- Scavenger Hunt for young and old developed by Teaching for Change (http://www.teachingforchange.org/). Pick up the questions at our table on the Old Murray’s Parking Lot (corner of Morton & Georgia Ave NW) and look for the clues at 7 participating businesses on Georgia Ave NW. We have prizes for the first three entries.
- Local author reading at Walls of Books. Check it out: http://bit.ly/2whHBDE
- Halloween is just around the corner so we all gotta get some pumpkins and start carving. We will have pumpkins at the Old Murray’s Parking Lot for $5 a piece (proceeds benefiting Georgia Avenue Thrive).
… and last but not least, First Friday has an additional drop off spot for Halloween costumes for our Halloween Costume Drive for the kids of Park Morton. Just come on down the the Old Murray’s Parking Lot and drop off new or gently used costumes there. More details: http://bit.ly/2h0WqEx
