The Family Convenience Store has recently opened at 3100 Georgia Avenue, the northwest corner of Georgia and Irving. The building has been vacant for about six years. Has anyone checked it out?

I stopped in and the selection is pretty sparse so far, but they have some of the basic staples along with the regular convenience store junk food. Also there is a pot of coffee there, which might be convenient. Hopefully they find some niche offering they’d like to focus on and can offer up something unique to their customers.

Another convenience store? There are about 10 within a 4-block stretch of Georgia. I’ve lived nearby since 2006 and the place was never open for any business, maybe a beauty shop on the upper floor but not street level.

Followed a category link to the 1989 story celebrating the Georgia Ave.-Morton shopping center. What a trip down memory lane – the quotes were excellent, and the Stat Lab owner was one of them! I love their façade makeover.

Color me suspicious of this new place.

When I went it was beyond sparse, with nothing offered there that wasn’t offered at the store catercorner it (and, in fact, the other store has significantly more in the way of offerings). The owners of this new store need to seriously reconsider their business plan if they want to be successful.

The building looks nice and I was excited to see that it was finally no longer vacant. I hope they have a business plan how they will differentiate themselves from all the other, very similar businesses up and down Georgia Ave. Would love to offer more constructive feedback as to what inventory they should carry but I have a Safeway up the road that is closer so will unlikely use it but hopefully others will. Odd Provisions clearly found their niche so I hope the same is true for them!
