New Restaurant in the Works for 3301 Georgia Avenue
I’ve been informed that the former chef of Duke’s Grocery, Alex McCoy, Dukes Grocery — a cafe, social market, and pub has signed a lease for the former Mothership space at 3301 Georgia Avenue.
Dukes Grocery currently has a location at 1513 17th Street NW. According to their Web site, “Duke’s Grocery is a neighborhood pub and supper spot. … The idea is simple: create a fun spot that our friends (you!) can come in anytime and have a fulfilling meal, a tasty drink and great time in an atmosphere that is unpretentious and laid back. Tuck in, drink up and enjoy!”
This looks like it will be a good addition to the neighborhood and one I’m looking forward to learning more about.
(Future location of Dukes Grocery, 3301 Georgia Avenue.)
Corrected 8:45 am — original lease information was unclear, but has since been confirmed.

Isn’t this just a pop-up/temporary lease until his restaurant Alfie’s opens on Upshur?
“Meanwhile, they just signed a lease to temporarily take over the former Mothership restaurant (3301 Georgia Avenue NW) and open a pop-up restaurant in the space. Alex said they plan on opening Alfie’s temporary home at Mothership in December while they work on the permanent space on Upshur St.”

If so, this is a big missed opportunity for longer term growth on this section of GA. I wish Zuckerman Partners would think about long-term vitality for this section of GA.
They seem to be doing the same with Small Fry and Union Drinkery (unless I’m mistaken). We want commitments not short term money generating plugs until you buy up the rest of Georgia from Irving to Park.

The city needs to put some pressure on Zuckerman. Maybe Brianne Nadeau could do something… Oh wait. All she has the ability and skills to focus on is affordable housing. Guess it’s one thing at a time.

Btw. Anyone know what the deal with Murry’s is? I know they are allowing a Winter Fest to occur on the property on Dec 5th but is there any movement of actual development of the property??
