We’ve eagerly been awaiting the opening of Colony Club, located at 3118 Georgia Avenue in the former MaMa’s Southern Cuisine space. Now, a little more than a year since Colony Club began their project, the are done and will open for business at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22nd.

The business will operate as a coffee shop between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and then transition to a bar with a limited food menu in the evenings between 7 p.m. and  10 p.m. Check out the Colony Club Website for more details on their food and beverage offerings.

Over the weekend I stopped in and talked with Max Zuckerman, the public face of Colony Club, which gave me the opportunity to see how the space has been transformed. Inside and out, Colony Club is a class act. For the first time in my memory, the building has curb appeal and is inviting. Upon entering the space, it is light, uncluttered, and comfortable with a mid-century modern feel to it. Everywhere one looks — even in the most simple details — one can see that fit, finishes, materials, and colors, were chosen thoughtfully resulting in a truly welcoming space.

Presuming their coffee, pastries, and service live up to the quality of the renovations, Colony Club will fast become a neighborhood favorite.

Below are a few photos from my recent visit:

A place like this would go over so well up on 14th St near Red Derby. Come north please!

Any word on the frybar or the Panamanian joint? For some reason these interest me more than another somewhat generic hipster hangout. Maybe I’ll be surprised and wrong though

So it will only have bar hours from 7pm-10pm daily? Seems like a short window where they will miss the early happy hour crowd. Looking forward to checking it out either way!
