Petworth Liquors’ Liquor License Up for Renewal
(Petworth Liquors, at 3210 Georgia)
Knowing that residents have had concerns about Petworth Liquors in the past, I thought people would like to know that the license is currently up for renewal. The notice that will be posted today is below:

Please do not vote to renew their license. Too many issues that impact the familes that live nearby. Thank You.

The picture too kindly depicts this now spray-painted blight. Get rid of this awful place that is owned by a Virginia resident.

Agreed. We all will be glad when this place is gone gone gone.

What’s going on with the development planned for this strip? It seemed like they were moving right along, and then got quiet a year ago.

Maybe it had to do with the homicide on Georgia Ave… Or the hundreds of assaults or robberies along Georgia and the side streets. We need leadership when it comes to crime in Park View and Columbia Heights. Where is Nadeau? I never hear anything from her. And I even voted for her (but not again!)!

I would be very happy to explain to them why this place should not have its liquor licence renewed. Kent, can you tell me how I write a letter in opposition?
Thanks!
Mike

I agree with the previous posters. It is a consistent blight on the neighborhood. Please DO NOT RENEW this request. What can we do to protest the renewal?

I’m going to double check with ABRA to see if there have been any changes in the last year or two, but based on what I know about protesting the renewal of a license, ANCs can protest as well as any group of 5 (or more) residents in a community. All protests must be in writing, must be received by ABRA before the end of the protest period (which in this case is May 4), and must clearly state the grounds for the protest (i.e., why the matter being objected to is inappropriate under one or more of the appropriateness standards such as peace, order, quiet, public safety, etc.).
The written protest may be scanned, faxed, mailed, or hand delivered to ABRA, but all must contain an original signature.

Did anyone ever organize a letter of protest on this? I would definitely participate. If so, please pass around the info.
