New Crosswalk Median Installed on Georgia Avenue
A new median was installed on Georgia Avenue last week just south of the intersection with Newton. It is intended to make it safer for pedestrians to cross the street at this intersection. I also understand that it has caused a little confusion for those driving south on Georgia as it required a slight lane change to accommodate the median. It appeared to me that new street markings still needed to be painted when I reviewed it over the weekend, though my inquiry to DDOT has not yet been answered.
Below are photos of what to expect.

I give it a week before someone drives right over that thing and crushes the signpost. This is poorly marked, once those big orange trash cans are taken away.

Yeah, already it’s heavily gouged. It’s not a bad idea, though, located at the corner of the elder center and the building housing physically disadvantaged.

This is great! as the post notes, markings are yet to be made. This will greatly improve safety for peds here, especially seniors. It provides a refuge and reduces crossing distance and even better will probably slow car traffic. Thank you DDOT! It would be great to have these all along Georgia Ave.

Definitely needed there, but there are better options than this kind of barrier. Originally they said they were going to install a brick crosswalk lined in flashing lights as part of GA Great Streets, but like most of the promises with that program – the money went to H street and the plans for GA were reduced.

Yeah, I’ve seen several cars swerve at the last minute, seems the cones were taken away and the lanes have yet to be remarked, so good idea, terrible planning, zero surprise

Already there have been many cars running straight to the new median because of lack of paint job indicating lane ends .this has caused many car damages that are out of the pocket Dot needs reconsider this waste of money in building gurantee u there will be more cars damaged due to this fatal brick being built.

I ran into the media after dark one evening. At that time their was no sign or anytheing to indicate a lane change. We need to contact DDOT. This is a major issue that needs to be resovled.
