Work Continues on Fisherman of Men Church
In reviewing applications for building permits this week, I noticed that the Fisherman of Men Church (below) has applied to install a canopy with the dimensions of 23.5′ by 3′ and 20′ by 5′.
I presume this will be above their Georgia Avenue entrance and look similar to the rendering below:

Is the sidewalk going to be extended to accommodate that structure for that block? Now it wouldn’t fit. Per the rendering, is the peaked roof to be removed? Wonder what that black box on top is?

I think it looks snazzy. The updates to the church have really changed the feel of that block. It used to feel like walking by a nondescript warehouse. Now it looks like a welcoming and vibrant religious institution. Is there any zoning requirement that says awnings can’t span the sidewalk? Seems to me the only impact on passersby would be keeping the rain off them.
