The Coupe Another Step Closer to Outdoor Cafe Service
As I posted on July 11th, the Coupe is in the process of expanding their service to include an outdoor sidewalk cafe. The proposal was brought before ANC 1A in July where they voted to support the public space permit by a vote of 5 in favor, 4 against, and 3 abstentions. I’ve learned that the public space permit has since been approved.
Last Friday, the placarding went up for the Coupe’s application to serve alcohol on the outdoor cafe. The hours of operation for the sidewalk cafe, per the notice of public hearing, are below. Its important to note that hours of operation and hours of sales are two different things. Currently, the Coupe does not begin serving alcohol before 10 a.m. on any given day.
Hours of operation:
- 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. — Monday through Thursday
- 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. — Friday
- 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Saturday
- 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. — Sunday
Also according to the notice, the request is for a new sidewalk cafe with 50 seats. Below is the plan of the sidewalk cafe as presented at the July ANC 1A meeting.

I love the Coupe, and outdoor seating ,etc…but when these things get approved does no one think about the larger community? So when I walk my dogs to the dog park if I take 11th then both sides of the street are lined with people eating and now its up to me to change my route, I guess, unless people aren’t going to get upset at me walking by with 2 mutts smelling their food. Seems to me at least one side of the street should be preserved for easy pedestrian access.
