Another Successful Gardening Event at the Park View Rec Center

Guest post from Sarah Sorscher —

Park View Park Garden Event 2The United Neighborhood Coalition and Friends of Park View Park sponsored their second gardening event at the Park View Park on May 18th. Turnout was high in spite of the light rain, and volunteers were able to plant and mulch the flower bed in front of the Rec Center, as well as pull up weeds and lay down fresh mulch in the area around the adult exercise equipment.

Department of Parks and Recreation provided mulch and tools for the event. Two local businesses also assisted: Annie’s Ace Hardware provided flowers at cost, and donated seeds and soil conditioner. PMG, an event organizing firm, brought close to a dozen volunteers.

Park View Park Garden Event 3The event closed out with a pizza party in the Rec Center. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.

The next gardening event will be held on Saturday, June 22nd, with work from 10-1pm and pizza from 1-2pm. The organizers are still finalizing plans with DPR, but the event may include planting flowers in the interior courtyard of the Rec Center.

These gardening events are funded by donations from community members, and the organizers are always looking for more donations and volunteers.

After a successful day of gardening, everyone posed for a group photo.
