Update on Mothership — Restaurant Coming to Park View
It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update about Mothership, the new restaurant coming to the former Brown’s Caribbean Bakery located at 3301 Georgia Avenue (at Lamont Street). News broke about the new restaurant back in March 2012. They also had a successful Kickstarter Campaign in August of this year, raising funds for some of the interior renovations.
In visiting with owner Stephan Boillon over the weekend, I got a chance to see how the renovations are going. I also found out that Mothership could be open as early as late January or early February, 2013. I’m certainly hoping this schedule holds.

After removing the false ceiling, these clerestory windows were discovered which will be retained for additional light.
In looking around the space, I was pleased to see that the buildings original terrazzo floors and tin ceiling are largely intact and Boillon intends to keep them. He also found original clerestory windows along the front of the building when he removed the false ceiling, which he also plans to keep. To open up the space, his goal is also to remove the outdoor awning and take the metal security mesh off the windows. All of this sounds great to me.
I also noticed that new air conditioning was installed as well as new restrooms for diners. Overall, construction appeared to be in its final stages.
The plan is for Mothership to be a restaurant and bakery that will be a community cornerstone and meeting place.
