Park View’s Fish in the Hood Get’s Nod from Washington Post

(Image from Fish in the Hood Website)

Thanks go out to a reader for giving me the heads up that our very own Fish in the Hood has a very nice review in the Washington Post. So much so that I can almost forgive the Post for, yet again, having no clue which neighborhood they were in when they visited the restaurant.

It’s a great local eatery that has been located at the same location for over 14 years. To get a sense of the food options you can visit their Website to see the menu.

Shamefully, I must admit that I’ve lived around the corner from this place for more than a decade and I have never visited. I just assumed it was another no-good, unclean Georgia Avenue hole in the wall. I’d heard a few good reviews from folks who also recommended Morgan’s Seafood. But, given the condition of Morgan’s Seafood, I poo-pooed their judgement. Now, thanks to the Post and this awesome blog, I’m willing to give Fish in the Hood a try some time soon.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the wonders in my own backyard!

I have been put off by the name and felt much like Ianisa. I will definitely try! I live so close to Morgan’s that despite its condition I enjoy Romeo’s fried trout and whiting – very light breading, reasonable price. Poor guy – his building was crashed into by yet another car last month.

Bill (the owner of Fish in the Hood) is an enterprising guy and wants very much to appeal to any type of customer and make all feel welcome. I promise that you will be pleasantly surprised if you get past the name or any bad experience you’ve had at other establishments. Its really important to keep good shops like this one going even as the neighborhood changes. As Jane Jacobs would say, having established shopkeepers who look out for our streets is an invaluable contribution toward a safe, connected community. And you won’t get that from a CVS– not knocking the CVS, just pointing out the difference.

I love this place! Great food and great people! Bill is awesome and goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. The sides are to die for! They also have good cornbread and fresh squeezed lemonade. I have had some of the coolest conversations while waiting on my food. If you’re in a hurry you might might to call your order in. I hope they are around another 14 years! BTW- I love the name! 🙂

I’ve been a customer of Fish in the Hood for the 5 years I’ve lived in Parkview. I not only buy their cooked items but also buy (raw) fish for any recipes I’m cooking myself.
