New Restaurant Coming to Former Brown’s Caribbean Bakery

The former Brown's Caribbean Bakery, 3301 Georgia Avenue, is destined to be a 45+ seat restaurant

Here’s some huge news for Park View … a new restaurant is reported to be coming to 3301 Georgia Avenue.

In October of 2011 I noticed that Brown’s Caribbean Bakery had closed and asked, without success, if anyone had any knowledge as to what the story was. By November the building was on the market indicating that Brown’s was closed for good.

Now, the Washington Post reports some exciting news for the neighborhood. According to an article posted on their Website on 3/5/12, Stephan Boillon, “the founder and chef of El Floridano, the superb international sandwich truck, is planning to open a full-service restaurant and bakery on Georgia Avenue NW in … Park View.”

The article continues, stating that Boillon has signed a “10-year lease for the former Brown’s Caribbean Bakery at 3301 Georgia Ave. NW.” with hopes to open in mid-May 2012.

The Post article sums it up as follows:

He’s building two new restrooms, converting a freezer into a walk-in cooler, laying new pipes, applying for a full liquor license and drawing up plans to convert a former carryout into a full-service 45-seat plus restaurant. All on a shoestring budget, with the help of a single silent investor.

With the renovated Lion’s, the soon to open DC Reynolds, and the new construction on Georgia Avenue … and now this … Park View just keeps getting better and better!

exciting… any bets on how long it will be until someone grabs planet chocolate city?

I agree that the Planet Chocolate City location would also make a great eatery. Both that location and Brown’s have enough sidewalk for outdoor seating … and not many Georgia Avenue properties have that.

That sounds exciting! Really need a couple of things like that to anchor the southern part of PV on GA. If/when the Neighborhood Dev. Corp gets moving on the “Vue” that’ll be a great block!

I do have to say though it’s a shame we lost jam down jamaican. The food was good. I think the signage and cleanliness turned people off. Hope that does not happen again.
