Sneak Peek Inside Petworth’s Annie’s Ace Hardware
On Saturday evening, February 4, Annie’s Ace Hardware owner Anne Stom hosted a small pre-opening preview for her investors and supporters at the store (located at 1240 Upshur, NW). The store, which will not officially open until Tuesday, February 7th, received notice in the Washington Post yesterday.
My initial reaction upon walking into Annie’s last night was WOW! It has a great selection of merchandise and just feels like it’s been there for years. It even smelled like a hardware store — I’m still wondering how Stom pulled that one off.
I believe this store will be a winner right out of the gate. As I walked the aisles and took note of the stock, I couldn’t think of one thing I’ve run to Home Depot for in the last three months that I won’t be able to get at Annie’s!
To give the community both a sense of some of the items they can find at Annie’s and perhaps do a little pre-shopping I’m posting a few photos below and after the jump.
(Looking down the main aisle at the front of the store)
(The paint aisle has a good selection of paint at different price points. Annie’s also has a nice selection of solvents and paint removers)
(Signs, felt pads, and protectors)
(In addition to switches, plate covers, and other typical electrical items, Annie’s carries electrical wire. It’s available both by the spool and the foot)
(A selection of cabinet pulls and knobs)
(Craftsman tool chests, so that you have a place to put all the tools you can find at Annie’s)

Kent – this is great! My husband and I will pay a visit on Tuesday. We probably won’t be going back to Home Depot.

This is great having a hardware store right in the neighborhood. No more long rides to Home Depot to pick up one item; we can just stroll down the street to Annie’s. Thanks for bringing Annie’s to the neighborhood.

Thanks for posting pics! I can’t believe how excited I am about this store in the neighborhood. Hopefully I can get everything for our yard and grill in the Spring too. Welcome to Petworth Ace!

This is wonderful and I am pleased that she did all she could to hire local Park View and Petworth residence! We need more businesses to follow her example. This is the kind of stuff that will improve our community. Not just a nice convenience for the neighborhood, but providing the dignity of a job and income for families in our community. We will make every effort to shop there and tell our neighbors to shop there as well. Thanks Annie!
