NDC Making Quick Work of Clearing Their Site for “The Heights”
In little more than a week, demolition of the former pawn shop and U-Like carry out on the southwest corner of Lamont and Georgia Avenue, NW, has progressed to an advanced state (see above).
In examining the site yesterday, there was little left that anyone familiar with the properties would recognize. One thing that I did notice that had alluded me before was how much land was fenced off for the project.
If you are familiar with the 700 block of Lamont Street you will know that there is a large lot behind U-Like with an alley separating the two properties. Both the empty lot and alley are currently within the construction fence leading me to wonder if they are also part of the project or merely needed for construction staging. I’ve provided an outline of what appears to be the perimeter fencing below.
(According to the DC Zoning Map, the area outlined in red will become the Heights. The additional area outlined in purple is also fenced in for construction.)

Wow, what an amazing mish-mash of small lots there! I wonder what the history is that led to such convoluted land-ownership.

I noticed that too. I may look into it if time allows.

Yes they are building over the alley and the vacant lot.
You can see this in some of the renderings, but I can’t find the link right now.
Alley access will be from Kenyon street only now.
As someone who lives on this block of Lamont I don’t mind about losing alley access too much–as long as the Heights doesn’t look like crap when they are done.

Amen to that!
I vaguely remember reading that the alley would be realigned and still reach Lamont but along the black wall of the neighboring property? I might be wrong on that.

I’m hoping this will encourage movement on 3203 Georgia Ave at the corner of Kenyon and Georgia. It’s been empty for quite some time now. ( or is it 3201? )
When I first moved in next door, there was a “coming soon” sign for a development, then that sign disappeared, and many months later the “Revitalending” sign showed up (after the fenced it off with that crappy chain link fencing job).
