Mapping Area Homicides and Assaults with Deadly Weapons for 2011
As we are nearing the end of the year, I thought it would be informative to see where this year’s homicides and assaults with deadly weapons (ADW) have been. The map below (via the link) includes all the known incidents in these categories for 2011 in ANC 1A, 1B, and 4C. Homicides are in red, ADW involving a gun are in purple, and all other ADWs are in yellow.
While the Park View area appears to be much quieter in these crimes than surrounding areas, it is having a huge spike in theft from autos. I’ll map out property crimes involving autos in the coming weeks.

It sure is nice to be in such an unpopular area for the crimminals. Go Parkview!
Now if we could just feel safe enough to walk the streets at night… we might actually have a good thing.

Homicides and assaults most frequently involve persons known to each other. Compare robberies, where the perp and the victim are generally strangers. For the well-behaved resident who doesn’t consort with violent people, robbery is the most threatening crime of violence. A map of the robbery locations would be a better indicator of the geographic dependence of the hazard to residents.
