Criminal Justice Public Forum on January 18, 2011
The following was submitted by Cecilia Jones, President, Northwest Columbia Heights Community Association (NWCHCA):
Please come to the first in a series of four Community Public Forums on DC’s Criminal Justice System. This is a time to learn, ask questions, raise issues, get answers, and formulate strategies on how we can stop the very serious problem of chronic repeat offenses in our neighborhoods. Although this event is hosted in Columbia Heights, the topics have CITYWIDE relevance–please cross town if you have to, and bring your active, concerned neighbors. Let’s make 2011 a great year for public safety in our communities. There’s a lot we can do.
Main Speaker:
- Cliff Keenan, Deputy Director of Pretrial Services Agency
- Suggested Pre-reading: “Processing Arrests” (attached)
- Preventing crime through effective pretrial release strategies
- “Conditions of Release”
- DC Metropolitan Police Department: Assistant Chief Diane Groomes and Third District Commander Jacob Kishter
- US Attorney’s Office: Third District Community Prosecutor Roger Kemp
- Kathy Henderson, Leader of Ward 5’s Court Watch
- Veronica Davis, Ward 7 Community Activist and Blogger
- Cecilia Jones, Volunteer Coordinator of the Community Criminal Justice Accountability Initiative (CCJAI)
