Blue Banana Soft Opening a Success
Last night, December 21, the Blue Banana at 3632 Georgia Avenue had its soft opening. They opened their doors around 6 p.m., but the real draw was the open bar from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. As 8 p.m. drew near, the place was packed.
For those that weren’t there and feel like they missed out, don’t worry. Tonight is another night like last night. With the official opening more or less being on Thursday, tonight will have another open bar between 8 and 9 p.m.
The remainder of the week is scheduled as follows:
- Thursday: 1/2 Price Beers all night!
- Friday: Xmas Eve 1/2 Price Drinks 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.
- Saturday: Closed during the day but opening at 8 p.m. 1/2 Price Drinks 8 p.m. – 10 p.m.
- Sunday: Noon – Close
But enough about beer and specials, something I could have next door at the Looking Glass Lounge. What is most impressive about the Blue Banana is the space. Even though it has a smaller footprint than some places, the finishes, colors, materials, and lighting achieved a standard that hasn’t been seen on this part of Georgia Avenue before. It struck me as being somewhat sophisticated and more in keeping with trendier parts of Washington. I was particularly taken with the lighting which clearly didn’t come from the Home Depot bargain aisle.
Another nice touch was the overall ambiance. Even though 10 televisions where showing various sports games, only music was heard over their sound system. I would expect this to change during the Super Bowl or Stanley Cup finals, but for last night it was nice to hear music rather than announcers.Bars comment below, or link to this permanent URL from your own site.
