Yoga House Closing (Moving)

Looking Glass LoungeIt was brought to my attention by a reader today that Yoga House, currently above Looking Glass, is planning to close with their last day being August 29th. It’ll be sad to see them go. An exerpt from the announcement is below:

“Our 5 year lease is ending at our current space at the end of August, and we have decided to vacate these premises. We love our beautiful Yoga House – but we know that it is not the building we love, it is the sweetness of all the amrit velas, all the yoga and meditation that we have done there that have created the beauty of this space – and we are not attached to this one building no matter how much we have enjoyed it.

So many great moments – from snowy morning yoga to hot hot sweaty classes, too. All of these are with me now, in my continuum of time and space and I will forever smile thinking of many of you transformed through meditation and practice there.

Yes we are planning to re-locate and re-open, but it won’t happen before 2011.”

Dear Yogi/nis and friends of Yoga House,

So where does time go? does it go anywhere? If we look at our life from a linear perspective then we are always in the past, present or future – and this is the only way most of us can make sense of so many of the systems that organize our lives – paying bills and watching our children grow, our parents age and the seasons change.

I’ve noticed the more I meditate, and the more I learn about quantum physics, that all time exists simultaneously, and that it is only the limitations of our mind’s perspective that forces us to categorize time into compartments.

I now believe that we can dance through any time of our life and make the changes to our past, present and future. We can go “back” in our mind’s awareness and change the conversations we had, the reactions we took to a past experience and it will change who we are in the present.

If we feel our past experiences at the same moment we hold our future dreams at the same moment we put one foot in front of the other – through lifetimes – then we have a bit of awareness of time being a vast continuum of the here and now.

Many of our feelings of grief and sadness come from a feeling of the past being ‘gone’ and the future ‘not yet here’ – in the yogic tradition we call this attachment and we know that attachment causes suffering.

A benefit of our yoga practice is that it teaches us to stay present and learn to focus our awareness and mental concentration. By staying present we can meet the demands of our full lives without going crazy. In order to succeed we need our working mind to be present – and not distracted by holding on to expectations based on past experiences or false hopes for the future which cause us to reel in painful emotional states.

We need to work hard with what we have in this moment – to stop wasting our pranic energy on anger and resentment and fear and disappointment when these expectations are not met. Instead – and this is it folks even though we don’t always want to do it – we have to get into the love that we have within us, to share this love and joy as much as we possibly can – EVEN IF we are afraid to do so, EVEN IF that love is not returned in the way we think it should be. This may sound pollyannish – but it is the only way we can survive the coming years without mental pain and neurosis and over the top self medication.

That may work for others, but if you are still reading this – that is not going to work for you. Love is going to work for you. Yes, you are a being of consciousness.

When you are having a problem with some one, or some matter – love more. This does not mean being a doormat for someone else to walk on or take advantage of, but come from a place of love in all you say and all you think – and this will transform the situation in ways you would not expect or imagine.

This is not an easy task – but you are one of the people on this planet that have chosen to open your consciousness to understand that you are not a victim, that the other person is a reflection of you and that we must do our best to understand from compassion.

If all the yogi greats are right – we humans are the manifestation of love and creation – of “generating-organizing-deconstructing” energy. This means that in every moment you can re-make yourself, re-organize your thoughts into a healthy body and lifestyle, and that you can re-lease your attachment from the past and expectation from your future – so that ALL OF YOU IS PRESENT.

So when Yogi Bhajan said – now is the time and the time is now – those words were potent beyond measure.

No matter the pain of your past or even what you think is your genetic destiny, all of this can be changed with the potency of your psyche, mind and commitment to love.

Now is the time to commit to your life – stop chasing the ghost of your life by expectations of past or future, and come into your present – commit! contain! consolidate! and let the richness of your life flow to you by your magnetic strength and the concentration of your psyche.

Many of us understand the power of Kundalini yoga to assist in consolidating and containing ourselves. I hope you will take this opportunity at Yoga House this summer to commit with us to a 40 day FREE sadhana (daily discipline). Any part of it you can muster to join in, please do. We meet at 4am, in the amrit vela, the sweet time of the day.

Our 5 year lease is ending at our current space at the end of August, and we have decided to vacate these premises. We love our beautiful Yoga House – but we know that it is not the building we love, it is the sweetness of all the amrit velas, all the yoga and meditation that we have done there that have created the beauty of this space – and we are not attached to this one building no matter how much we have enjoyed it.

Yes we are planning to re-locate and re-open, but it won’t happen before 2011.

So we invite you to join us now – juice yourself up with as much yoga as you can! get your own groove on so you can maintain a strong practice until we can be back together again.

I can hardly express the love I have felt leading Yoga House for the past 5 years and seeing how much so many of you have changed in the process of opening your hearts through yoga and meditation, healing your bodies and many of you are teachers now!
