Grass, Second Tot Lot @ Bruce-Monroe
What a difference a week makes. Even though I posted an update about the progress of the Bruce-Monroe site earlier this week (from my visit last weekend), there has been a lot going on there this week.
The area closest to Georgia Avenue now has sod (I’m still uncertain if there is a plan to water it). Closer to the center of the site is the second tot lot and on the Irving Street side the asphalt parking lot has largely been installed.
While the initial goal of having the site in use for part of the Summer seems a bit of a reach, the current speed indicates that the community may get a usable park for a few months before colder weather sets in. Considering how little green space exists in the immediate area, this is definitely a much-needed improvement. If you haven’t already seen the earlier post on the plans for this site, you can see them here>>

Is the tennis court ready yet?

Good question. The tennis courts appear to be mostly done and have a nice cage around them. I think its going to be a while before things are open to the public, though.
BTW, isn’t it too hot to be thinking about tennis? I can barely walk down the street let alone run and jump.

No, you just have to drink a lot of water!

From my front window, I can tell you that the net for the tennis court is up, as are the basketball hoops. They’ve painted the white lines on all courts and the walkway through the park is complete. I think with the 12 hour days they’ve been working, it might actually open next weekend. There is still a decent amount of sod to do though.

Now that’s good news. Thanks for the update.

will there be any restrooms on the site.

From what I understand, they are about to begin the second phase of the project which will include a community structure for educational programs. I’d hope this would include restrooms but have not heard one way or the other.
