Hat Wearers Rejoice: Tomorrow Marks Another Straw Hat Day

There's A Straw For Every Face, From the Washington Post, May 12, 1939

Tomorrow is Straw Hat Day. Hardly a holiday remembered by the masses, but significant in that it was one of the indicators marking the beginning of the Summer season. While National Straw Hat Day is May 15, there were local variations where the day was a few days earlier or later.

Back when men commonly wore hats, its the day that one put the winter felt away and switched it for the summer Straw. Then, on September 1st, the cycle would be reversed.
