This year’s Park View Halloween Festival turn out to be very successful for its first year. It was held at the Park View Recreation Center. Beginning at 2 p.m. and running until 6 p.m. there were games, face painting, contests, crafts, and even a mummy wrap.

This was followed at 6 p.m. (running until 9 p.m.) by an MPD sponsored Haunted House.

The festival was well attended for an inaugural event. There were about 30 children, most of them in costumes which led to a costume judging contest late in the day (Little Red Ridding Hood won best overall).

Among my favorites were the cake walk and the mummy wrapping contest. Ira Stange and the Rec Center’s own Jamar Goodall volunteered to be wrapped, which was harder than it sounds. Since the children were using bathroom tissue it had a tendency to rip apart. Still, as you can see from the photo, it did not deter them from creating some fairly good mummies.

The program’s success can be attributed to the hard work of the volunteers, the Park View Kids Zone, Greater DC Cares, and Rec Center staff, particularly Jamar Goodall who put in a great deal of effort in the week leading up to the event.
