New Restaurant in the Works for 3124 Georgia Avenue
UPDATE: 2/5/13: Apparently the ABRA notice that was mailed to me was in error where the address was concerned. I’ve since learned that Mama Put will be located just to the south, at 3124 Georgia, NOT 3214 Georgia as previously reported.
I received notice over the weekend that a new restaurant is in the works for 3214 Georgia Avenue — located between Petworth Liquors and the new Heights building that is going up. According to the ABRA license notification, the business is currently planning to operate under the name Mama Put. They have applied for a Class “C” Tavern license which is normal in this area.
The business is described as a new full scale restaurant serving Asian & African inspired food, with an atmosphere for lounging and listening to DJ music or Live Bands — entertainment with a cover charge. The total number of indoor seats is 99, with 18 seats on the Summer Garden.
The hours of operation listed on the ABRA notice are:
- Inside: Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., Friday & Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
- Summer Garden: Sunday through Thursday 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., Friday & Saturday 12 p.m. to 3 a.m.

I hope this reduces the vagrants that hangout on this block

Nice to see, that stretch could use a little sprucing up. I’m assuming it won’t be geared toward “family-friendly” given the DJ music and live bands?

I am really wishing them the best and most success but they have their work cut out for them. Maybe the new residents of the soon-to-open corner building will make the difference. I also hope they have visited the property numerous times to plan for a strategy with the people that live on the sidewalk there.

Prince of Petworth gives a different address. I heard that this locations, including the Petworth Liquors, was going to be redeveloped. Curious to see what happens here.
