Over the weekend I noticed that a new mural has been painted on the Bell Corner Stop (3501 Georgia). The mural, shown below, is on the Park Road side of the building. According to the listed credits, it is the work of Charles Jean-Pierre and James Flowers. Less than a month ago Jean-Pierre organized a group of MacFarland Middle School students to paint a mural a few blocks north of Chuck Brown at Sweet Mango.

June 18, 2012Park View School Modernization Underway
June 18, 2012The summer modernization of the historic Park View School building began in earnest on Saturday, June 16th. As expected, dumpsters, fencing and barriers showed up in advance of the final day of classes for the Bruce-Monroe @ Park View students. As you can see from the photo, the dumpsters quickly filled up.
Not everything in the school ended up in dumpsters, though. School supplies, library books, and equipment the faculty wanted saved was packed up for storage to return in the fall.
Construction at the school is expected to be intense for the duration of the summer break.

"The territory comprising Park View extends from Gresham Street north to Rock Creek Church Road, and from Georgia Avenue to the Soldiers' Home grounds, including the triangle bounded by Park Road, Georgia Avenue, and New Hampshire Avenue" (from Directory and History of Park View, 1921.)
