Park View Community Clean Up a Success
Last Saturday’s Park View clean-up day was successful. No fewer than 22 neighbors participated. This clean-up was coordinated with DPW which provided the trash bags and their collection and with Greater DC Cares which provided gloves and trash grabbers.
As you can see below, in just under an hour and a half we were able to collect 13 bags of trash and get the garbage out of the neighborhood.
While I know it is difficult to stay on top of litter — especially on Georgia Avenue where I focused my efforts with DC Reynolds partner Jeremy Gifford — I was particularly encouraged that this time around I did not find any crack bags or condom wrappers.
My follow-up questions to readers are — how frequently should we have these clean-ups, and is Saturday at 10 a.m. a generally good time for them?

The neighborhood is cleaner as a result. Consider organizing monthly; 10am = good. Thx!

I had a number of folks ask how often we picked up trash and if it was a regular event. I think once a month – say first Sat of every month would be easy to remember.

I like once per month too. Let’s organize some sort of social event after too, I enjoyed cleaning up with my family but I didn’t get to meet any new people and I would have liked to. Maybe we could do a community breakfast in the Rec Center with coffee and bagels beforehand? I just feel so greatful to all the people who helped out and I want to get to know them.
