The Avenue Now Leasing for Summer Occupancy

The Fisherman of Men Church at 3641 Georgia Avenue is the temporary leasing office for the Avenue
All signs indicate that the Avenue project at 3506 Georgia Avenue (intersection of Newton) will be completed and have residents by the Summer 2012. Well, that’s what the development’s Web site states, anyway. The project began in earnest at the beginning of April, 2011, meaning this project is just over a year old at present.
The Fisherman of Men church at 3641 Georgia is currently functioning as the temporary leasing office. It is open Monday through Friday 10:00 am to 6:30 pm and By Appointment 202-722-2773.
Readers may recall that the building is 100% affordable. To give you an idea of what that means, a one bedroom 630 sq. ft. unit has a projected monthly rent of $1,054 and a two bedroom 850 sq. ft. unit has a projected monthly rent of $1,256. Below are the income guidelines for prospective renters.

One of the primary goals of this project is to provide housing for current Park Morton residents which will allow future redevelopment of that complex. At this time, it is difficult to determine just how many Park Morton residents will decide to move to the Avenue or even what the time table is for the main Park Morton’s site. What is known is that anyone who meets the income requirements is eligible to apply for one of the available units.
In describing the development, the following description is on the Web site:
The Avenue has it all, from efficient design to chic amenities. Choose from well-designed one and two bedroom floor plans featuring open concept kitchens with granite countertops, cherry wood plank vinyl flooring, washer/dryer connections, oversized windows, and energy efficient appliances. Enjoy convenient on-site amenities including the community green roof deck, bicycle storage, fitness center, business center and more.
Below is a rendering of the finished project.

Park Morton needs to go!
April 30, 2012 at 1:58 pm
I hope they are working with residents that live in Park Morton to relocate to The Avenue. Does anyone know if any information is going out to the residents of Park Morton or do they just have to figure it out themselves? My concern is there are a lot of seniors who might not be aware of what’s happening and what their options are. I am glad to see this first step in redeveloping Park Morton under way!
